Can you reboil peanuts?

I bought some boiled peanuts from a vendor today and was totally excited about it because I haven't had both peanuts and what seems like forever. When I opened the bag and started to crack open the peanut and put it in my mouth I realized they were too hard for my taste. I actually think that they were raw peanuts that were supposed to be soaked prior to boiling, and the vendor possibly didn't know how to properly make boiled peanuts. But that is neither here nor there, my question is, can I reboil the peanuts to make them soft without ruining them?

Yes, reboil them until they are as soft as you like. Add salt after they soften, about 1 tablespoon per pint of water used, per your taste.

Do I need to let the peanuts cool before storing them in the refrigerator or freezer?
